The network "München für Seenotrettung" presents the film "Kein Land für Niemand" (D 2025, 107 min), a documentary accompanying a Mediterranean rescue mission, exposing catastrophic refugee camp conditions, and giving voice to survivors. It also examines Germany's political and social developments, including rising right-wing populism and the criminalization of migration more info
The network "München für Seenotrettung", consisting of various NGOs and civil society groups, shows the film "Kein Land für Niemand". (D 2025, 107 min, R: Maik Lüdemann, Max Ahrens). The documentary accompanies a rescue mission in the Mediterranean, shows the catastrophic conditions in refugee camps and gives a voice to people who have survived the life-threatening journey to Europe. At the same time, the film looks at political and social developments in Germany: a strengthening right-wing populism shapes the discourse. Flight and migration are increasingly criminalized, and humanitarian aid comes under pressure. Through exclusive interviews with scientists, political decision-makers and activists, "Kein Land für Niemand" questions current narratives about flight and migration and illuminates the mechanisms by which fear and populism determine the political agenda. With activists from sea rescue NGOs and civil society, as part of the International Weeks Against Racism. The implementation of the film was made possible by a funding alliance involving the following organizations: Sea Watch, United4Rescue, Pro Asyl, German Doctors, Mennonitisches Hilfswerk and Sea Eye.
The federal police plan to build a deportation terminal at Munich Airport, capable of deporting up to 100 people daily by late 2028. The campaign "Abschiebeterminal MUC verhindern" protests this, demanding a clear stance against escalating deportation policies and for an open, solidary urban society more info
The federal police plan to build a deportation terminal at Munich Airport. With this terminal, it should be possible to deport up to 100 people a day via Munich Airport from the end of 2028. The city of Munich holds 23% of Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) and will vote on the project in the upcoming supervisory board meeting. But instead of sending a clear signal against the further escalation of deportation policy, the mayor recently publicly spoke out in favor of the construction. The construction of the deportation terminal represents a further tightening of an inhumane migration policy. The campaign "Abschiebeterminal MUC verhindern" does not want to accept this without protest and organizes protests – against the planned terminal and against a policy that sells deportations as inevitable and at the same time withdraws them from public control. We want on March 16th to send a clear signal for an open and solidary urban society and call on politicians to vehemently oppose the deportation terminal. Human rights must be defended even under pressure! Munich must not become the capital of deportations!

This event discusses the NGO "African Parks," which manages 24 nature parks in Africa. Investigative journalist Olivier van Beemen exposes the militarization of nature conservation, harassment of local populations, and undemocratic rule by a white executive, as detailed in his award-winning book more info
The NGO "African Parks" manages 24 large nature parks in Africa and is considered a success story. But what and who is really behind it? Olivier van Beemen researched the organization for almost four years, interviewed countless insiders, dropouts, and residents of the parks, and was not deterred by arrests, espionage accusations, and deportations. His stirring book shows what the militarization of nature conservation causes, how the local population is harassed, and how a white executive without democratic control rules in the name of an "untouched" – deserted – nature. The book won the Brusseprijs for the best journalistic book in the Netherlands. The human rights organization FIAN will also be present to discuss a similar topic: The Maasai in Tanzania, who are existentially threatened by evictions in the name of tourism and "nature conservation".
A unique science fiction film where humanity lives in an artificial world. A film critic obsessively tries to understand and capture nature with his phone, while various experts reflect on how to represent it. The film is a playful, kaleidoscopic collage that also explores the nature of cinema itself more info
(INSTEAD OF TREES) Germany/Argentina 2024. A film by Philipp Hartmann. A different kind of science fiction film: Humanity now lives in an artificial electronic environment where a philosophically active film critic, Roger Koza, wants to understand nature. He obsessively tries to capture its image with his phone camera. Other experts—filmmakers, art historians, a scenographer, and representatives of the human species from a distant future—reflect on ways to represent nature. In a kaleidoscopic and playful collage, sometimes fictional, sometimes documentary, the film also reflects on the nature of cinema itself. Hartmann playfully weaves together art history and criticism of colonialism, the imagined and the factual. The mosaic-like narrative becomes a manifestation of friendship and cinephilia.

This is not so easy to answer. Especially not for a border crosser like Maxi Pongratz, who gets around a lot, likes to think outside the box and looks beyond the horizon. With a curious eye and open ears, he moves between city and country, pub music and Dada, tradition and rebellion, between wit and melancholy, poetry and sound, shyness and mischief.

Legendary Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson, with Anders Jormin and Jon Fält, effortlessly blends influences and idioms, creating clear, melodic tunes that lead into long improvisational parts more info
Bobo Stenson moves in his very own sphere. Effortlessly but highly concentrated, the legendary Swedish pianist mediates between his different influences, between the idioms. He shows a sense for clear, melodic tunes that seamlessly lead him into long improvisational parts. For over twenty years, Stenson has maintained a trio with bassist Anders Jormin and drummer Jon Fält – anyone who listens to their fourth joint album "Sphere" must get the impression that these three communicate musically with each other in an almost telepathic way. Undoubtedly, the 81-year-old Bobo Stenson is one of the most influential musicians on the European continent. Not only has he created unforgettable works with numerous jazz greats of the Scandinavian world – he was also part of Charles Lloyd's European Quartet, performed with Sonny Rollins, Don Cherry, Tomasz Stanko, with George Russell's Nordic Orchestra, or with the world music formation Rena Rama. Artists/Performers: Bobo Stenson (p), Anders Jormin (b), Jon Fält (dr).
Experience the best salsa directly from Cuba with Maykel Blanco Y Su Salsa Mayor more info

Led by the multi-talented Maykel Blanco – singer, drummer, percussionist, pianist, composer, and arranger – SALSA MAYOR has developed its own unique style. Maria de Val, a versatile multi-instrumentalist from a Ladin mountain village, presents her "Mëda Medusa Tour 2026," blending indie-folk with Italian and South American influences, showcasing her unique perspective and unmistakable voice more info
A very special view of the world characterizes Maria de Val, and she takes us on a journey with exactly that. Grown up in a Ladin mountain village in the South Tyrolean Alps, the versatile musician has united the most diverse perspectives - as a Ladin in South Tyrol, a South Tyrolean in Italy, an Italian in Germany, and not least as a drummer in the male-dominated music world. Her music is the result of this exciting versatility. "I don't want to claim that I suffered from it," says Maria, "but it naturally sharpens the senses." And exactly this sensitivity is reflected in her music. As a multi-instrumentalist, Maria de Val masters an impressive range of instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keys, sequencer, theremin, and marimba - all of this flows into her musical creations. She has already demonstrated her skills on large stages with artists like Hubert von Goisern, but on her debut album "Mëda Medusa" she now shows herself in her full musical diversity. The album finally offers her unmistakable voice the space to fully unfold, after she was previously celebrated in bands like Ganes and ME + MARIE. In her songs, flexibility and longing for one's own place merge - an exciting Yin and Yang that reflects her very own perspective on the world. Musically inimitable in the "De Valschen Collagen-Stil," she weaves indie-folk with influences from Italian and South American music culture, as in the captivating number "None of Us Cannot Be Wrong _".

Utopia, modernism, punk, subversion, war and a bunch of questions more info
A musical trip by balkaNet e.V. through the Yugoslavian past into the here & now. YUdèjàVU is a journey through the pop culture of Yugoslavia from 1950 to the present day. Before the collapse of Yugoslavia, the society of the non-aligned multi-ethnic state was steeped in subversive ideas: Punk rock and avant-garde were not a marginal phenomenon here, but mainstream. How could a society characterised by awakening and tangible utopias slide into war and genocide? And what do these questions do to the survivors? The Munich-based group balkaNet e.V. brings together people from different population groups in the former Yugoslavia. Those who organise there believe in overcoming nationalism and in the utopia of multi-religious and non-religious coexistence. Nevertheless, they all need a lifetime to understand what happened back then. YUdèjàVu approaches the answers in an unconventional, personal and approachable way, based on the history of the Yugoslav pop and rock scene. It survived the collapse of the state. As a result, the music took on a trans-Yugoslavian identity and spread throughout the world in diasporic contexts. Let us now let it resound in the Werkraum of the Münchner Kammerspiele. Because it tells us far more about our present than we realise.

A mystical-energetic power beyond tonality unfolds at the beginning of the concert evening in the 2014 drum solo by composer Yiran Zhao. The work's title 'Joik' refers to the traditional singing of the Sami in Scandinavia, with which knowledge and stories are passed on for generations. Toshio Hosokawa also stands for such an inter- and intracultural search for clues. In his music, he often traces the old Noˆ theater from his native Japan in order to question it with quiet reduction, noisy sound action and large-scale drama. Composed for the birth of the soloist Veronika Eberle's child, in his violin concerto 'Genesis' from 2020 he lets the solo violin wander through a tonal primal scene as a searching, sensitive person. The concert introduction with Franz Anton Peter takes place at 7:15 p.m. in the hall. With: Mathias Lachenmayr (percussion), MKO

Sloe Paul live: Psych-folk, experimental singer/songwriter music from Paul Abbrecht and his five-piece band more info
In the twilight between sleep and waking, Sloe Paul's music seems woven from the fine threads of a dream. On repeated listening, however, earthly references can also be found. The equally catchy and idiosyncratic mélange can at best be described as psych-folk, experimental singer/songwriter. The warm, narrative quality of the melodies and a multi-layered instrumentation are reminiscent of pop music of past decades, but find their very own way in surprising twists. On stage, a five-piece band meanders with playful ease between ethereal soundscapes and energetic drive. Sloe Paul is the solo project of Paul Abbrecht. The Sloe Paul Live Band consists of: Marius Schwingel (bass), Tim Bohner (drums), Marcus Schreiter (guitar), Marius Moses Alsleben (synths, guitar, vocals), Paul Abbrecht (piano, vocals).

A fusion of theatre, cabaret, and music with Maximilian Schafroth more info
"Wachse oder weiche" is a fusion of theatre, cabaret, and music featuring Maximilian Schafroth, exploring the fascination of growth. The performance delves into the friction between town and country, presenting an evening with cooperative banks, a giant pumpkin, and Allgäu blues. Schafroth, known for his sharp and tender perspective, brings the world of the farm and everyday life in the state capital to the stage. The play examines the pressure to adapt or be replaced, whether in rural or urban settings, suggesting that the dramas of village life are not so different from those in the city. The Kammerspiele ensemble merges with Maximilian Schafroth’s team to create a musical theatre experience ranging from Allgäu blues to traditional trio singing. This production continues the Kammerspiele's tradition of combining drama and political cabaret. Maximilian Schafroth, who began his stage career in youth theatre at Kammerspiele, has also toured with his own show, played the Lenten Preacher at Nockherberg, and voiced Pumuckl.

der/gelbe/klang more info
As part of the carte jaune! format, der/gelbe/klang regularly hands over the musical helm – and invites outstanding artists to curate a program for the regular line-up. With Enno Poppe, the ensemble welcomes one of the most formative minds of the contemporary music scene. As a composer and conductor, Poppe has played a decisive role in shaping the music scene of the last two decades. For carte jaune!, Enno Poppe has designed a program that reflects both his personal signature and his aesthetic openness. At the center is his own work 'Laub' – a multi-layered, breathing sound sculpture in which tonal ramifications and distortions spread organically. This is contrasted by two extraordinary positions in contemporary music: 'early life' by Hector Parra is a piece that deals with the emergence of life – biologically, philosophically, musically. The Irish composer Ann Cleare presents 'luna/lithe/laire', a work that oscillates between light and shadow, clarity and disappearance. With: Enno Poppe (conductor), Ensemble der/gelbe/klang
Swiss artist Pina Palau presents her second album, 'Get A Dog'. Accompanied by her band, she delivers music inspired by greats like Adrienne Lenker, Julia Jacklin, and Phoebe Bridgers, featuring dark fuzz guitars and melodic bass lines more info
Pina Palau has always been interested in unvarnished humanity—motivations, emotions, and stories that shape our lives. This curiosity led her to study medicine, aiming to research the human psyche as a psychiatrist. However, this plan had to wait as her debut album «Illusion,» including the hit single «Jupi,» was created simultaneously. Before she knew it, the Swiss artist found herself driving her tour bus across Europe instead of sitting in a psychiatrist's chair. Performances supporting Courtney Barnett or Alex Lahey followed, as well as concerts at the Reeperbahn Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival. She is accompanied by a wonderful band with dark fuzz guitars, melodic bass lines, and a drum set as dry as Pina Palau’s humor. Her second album, «Get A Dog,» was released in early 2024 via Mouthwatering Records. On the new album, Pina Palau dissects everyday stories with the urgent desire to understand how we humans tick. Presented by The Pick, Soundkartell.

The performance questions whether isolation, competition, and black-and-white thinking will continue to define our lives, or if new spaces can emerge in the cracks of the old world. Nine performers meet on stage to explore what separates and connects them, and how individual parts can form a larger whole. The duration is 1 hour and 15 minutes, with no intermission.

An immersive performance lecture by Sandra Chatterjee & Friends, exploring the connection between racism and smell from everyday prejudices to philosophical traditions. It uses music, dance, and scents to uncover hidden narratives and involves the audience in creating symbolic incense antidotes against racism more info
"Smells of Racism" is an immersive performance lecture by Sandra Chatterjee & Friends, presented as part of the International Weeks Against Racism 2026. The performance delves into the profound and often overlooked connection between racism and smell, exploring its presence from everyday prejudices to philosophical traditions, including the writings of Immanuel Kant. It prompts the audience to consider the hidden scents of sweat, blood, tears, and the systematic historical exploitation of people, particularly in relation to common goods like coffee, tea, and spices, or the daily experiences of marginalized individuals like street cleaners. Through a blend of music, dance, and scents, the performance uncovers these concealed narratives. A central interactive element involves the collective creation of incense mixtures, serving as symbolic antidotes against everyday racism. These antidotes, ranging from empathy (rose) and calm (lavender) to anger (asafoetida) and foresight (laurel), are as diverse as the racist situations encountered in daily life. The performance invites the audience to participate in a continuous process of combating racist structures by smelling existing incense mixtures created with past audiences and crafting a new one for future attendees. A tribute to the legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders by Johannes Enders, Joris Teepe, and Gene Calderazzo. Experience a unique take on Spiritual Jazz more info
The term Spiritual Jazz goes back to musicians like Pharaoh Sanders, because when the tenor saxophonist played, it was always as if he was building direct contact with the creator. Johannes Enders, the saxophonist from Weilheim, now bows to this giant who died in 2022. He calls his program with bassist Joris Teepe and drummer Gene Calderazzo "The Creator Has a Masterplan B", in reference to a famous Sanders title. Enders is never tempted to imitate the unique sound of his role model. In his tribute, there are echoes, but otherwise, he remains completely himself. The multi-award-winning saxophonist is considered one of the most versatile and open jazz musicians of his generation. Artists: Johannes Enders (ts), Joris Teepe (b), Gene Calderazzo (dr). Admission: 28€, Students/Pupils 14€, Members: 14€.

Laye Mansa (guitar, piano, accordion, and vocals) plays 'Mbalax with a mission'. In his music, named M'Belengh (meaning: to flow), he combines Afrobeat, M'Balakh, Soul, Jazz, Trance music, and Reggae. The singer and composer comes from Rufisque, a suburb of Dakar, Senegal. Music has accompanied him since the age of 7 – from building his first own drum set, to performances with his brothers, first balafon lessons and percussion, to his own lyrics and songs. He spent several years in Paris and Morocco, studied marketing and computer science, and was musically inspired by bands like 'Toure Kunda'. He became increasingly involved in social issues such as peace, justice, and the environment. To continue his musical career, he decided to move to Germany in 1984. Here, he wants to bring important African issues closer to people. For years, he has performed in various formations, as a solo artist, with his band, or with other artists. Currently lives in Munich, where, in addition to his musical activities, he also devotes himself to acting and can be seen in Tatort and at the Münchner Kammerspiele. Moussa Lô, bass drummer and djembe player from Senegal.

An intergenerational movement workshop led by choreographer Cristina D’Alberto and author Jan Geiger. Open to all ages and abilities, it explores movement and narration to express personal stories and connect them to others, focusing on authentic expression and collective physical narratives more info
In preparation for her new project _About TIME – ein generationenübergreifender Körper von Geschichten_ (Premiere July 2026, HP8 Stadtbibliothek), choreographer and movement artist Cristina D’Alberto, together with author Jan Geiger, leads a workshop open to all citizens – regardless of age, experience, or physical abilities. Participants explore movement and narration as a means to express personal stories and relate them to others. The focus is on guided movement exercises that sharpen awareness of one's own "physical signature" – shaped by biography, cultural background, and life experience. Improvisational practices make it possible to experience how memories are stored in the body and how movement can become a form of storytelling. Writing impulses support the reflection of personal memories, which are then translated into movement. Dance experience is not required; the focus is on authenticity and expression rather than technical skills. Another focus is on working together in intergenerational groups. Through exchange, guided improvisations, and choreographic games, participants weave their individual stories into collective physical narratives that bridge differences in age, background, and experience. Accompanying reflections open up space for dialogue about identity, listening, and community. The workshop ends with a joint presentation that makes the collaborative processes visible and creates new collective memories. No dance or writing experience necessary. Artistic Direction: Cristina D’Alberto. Concept and Implementation: Cristina D’Alberto, Jan Geiger. Artistic Production Management: Rat & Tat Kulturbüro. Language: German/English. Tickets: Free admission. Registration (booking a free ticket) is requested. Promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Munich. Accessibility: Relaxed Performance, Early Boarding, Disabled Parking, Accessible Toilet, Toilet for All.

From late classical to early romantic. The concerts with the Club of Young Pianists - the youth organization of the Pianists' Club with some of the best young pianists in Germany - have long since left the realm of 'insider tips' and have cult status. This evening begins and ends with Chopin. Twelve-year-old Viola Frings starts brilliantly with Chopin's Etude in C major, then conjures up romantic sounds in the hall with the Nocturne in F-sharp major and concludes her part with an Allegro by Mendelssohn's sister Fanny Hensel. The also twelve-year-old Veronika Grishechkina presents Chopin's Variations brillantes and will demonstrate her motor skills with Saint-Saëns' Toccata in F major. A highlight will be Schubert's great four-hand Fantasy in F minor, which Sara Petz (16) - a loyal member who has often performed with us and was absolutely convincing at the last concert on December 6 - will play with her friend before the intermission. We are very pleased that Konstantin Egensperger (20) is performing in a Pianists' Club concert again after a long time and will be playing Beethoven's famous Pathétique Sonata, among other things. Sebastian Rauch (19), already a full professional, will conclude the evening with Scriabin and Chopin. He won the 'Marble Key' at Simon Gourari's 2024 Youth Piano Podium competition, the highest prize that can be awarded. It has only been awarded eight times in the 20 previous editions, and we are very happy to have won this top pianist for the evening. Polina Spirina will guide you through this special evening with stories about the young artists and introductory words to the program

"GREY" is a dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke & Serhat "Saïd" Perhat. The performance explores a dystopian world where society moves towards political abysses, making dark future visions seem increasingly credible more info
The performance questions whether isolation, competition, and black-and-white thinking will continue to define our lives, or if new spaces can emerge from the cracks of the old world. Against the backdrop of a dystopian, underground city, the dancers' individual personalities and stories gradually emerge. They seek their own path in a harsh society, slowly approaching each other, influencing one another, and inspiring each other's movements until a pulsating interplay is created. A fusion of theatre, cabaret, and music with Maximilian Schafroth more info
On the fascination of growth. A fusion of theatre, cabaret and music with Maximilian Schafroth. An evening featuring cooperative banks, a giant pumpkin and Allgäu blues. Maximilian Schafroth is known for his sharp and tender perspective and sees himself as a mediator of the friction between town and country. For his debut theatre piece, he is evoking the world down on the farm as well as everyday life in the state capital. And to do so, he is dumping a field into the theatre, inviting the audience to witness the merger of two cooperative banks and cultivating a giant pumpkin that leads to seriously frayed tempers. The same rule applies in the countryside and the city: those who fail to move with the times die out. Either milk (the system) and skim (the profits) – or make way for others. Everyone is labouring under this pressure, but while some jump on the bandwagon, others dig in to try and resist displacement. Is it possible that the dramas of everyday life in the village are not so different from those in the city after all? For this performance, the Kammerspiele ensemble is merging with Maximilian Schafroth’s own team to create an evening of musical theatre ranging from raucous Allgäu blues to traditional trio singing from the outback of Old Bavaria.

Neues Kollektiv München more info
The beginning of spring is the time in the annual cycle when nature begins to bloom and grow again, when people become more awake, more conscious, and the mind stirs. Growth is also a sign of contemporary music: simple structures build on each other, grow and network, play with each other, separate and network further. This can be found in creative thinking and as a formal process, as a growth of the material and in notation-open structures as an interaction between the musicians, right up to the improvisational nature of individual sections. The newly composed works of the NKM move within this spectrum. Each composer of the ensemble, including Christoph Reiserer, Friedemann von Rechenberg, Alexander Strauch, Leon Zmelty and Caio de Azevedo, begins with a structural, formal or content-related germ cell and will let it grow and network between the musicians. Suzan Çakar's relaxed dance course prepares us for Nowrouz. Step into the circle: movement meets history! Kurdish folk dance is community, resistance, and storytelling more info
A popular occasion to step into the circle is the New Year festival Newroz. We celebrate this on March 21st with a big party concert in the Werkraum of the Kammerspiele (under its Persian name Nowrouz). At the Habibi Kiosk, you can practice dances, have fun, and learn about the background. Our dance teacher Suzan Çakar makes it clear for everyone: beginners, advanced dancers, wheelchair dancers, cognitively impaired people, world champions — everyone is welcome in our barrier-free kiosk. Here we dance to rarely seen Kurdish music cassettes. To this day, they are only sold under the counter in Turkey. Before YouTube and music streaming, due to the ban on the Kurdish language, the vast majority of Kurdish music production had to resort to the handy cassette format.

An intergenerational movement workshop by Cristina D’Alberto, open to all citizens regardless of age, experience, or physical abilities. Participants explore movement and narration to express personal stories and connect them to others, focusing on authentic expression and collective physical narratives more info
In preparation for her new project _About TIME – an intergenerational body of stories_ (Premiere July 2026, HP8 City Library), choreographer and movement artist Cristina D’Alberto, together with author Jan Geiger, leads a workshop open to all citizens. Participants explore movement and narration as a means to express personal stories. The focus is on guided movement exercises that sharpen awareness of one's own "physical signature." Improvisational practices allow experiencing how memories are stored in the body and how movement can become storytelling. Writing impulses support the reflection of personal memories, which are then translated into movement. No dance experience is required; the focus is on authenticity. Another focus is on working together in intergenerational groups. Through exchange and guided improvisations, participants weave their individual stories into collective physical narratives. The workshop ends with a joint presentation. No dance or writing experience necessary. Artistic Direction: Cristina D’Alberto | Concept and Implementation: Cristina D’Alberto, Jan Geiger | Artistic Production Management: Rat & Tat Kulturbüro. Funded by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich.

A public laboratory intervention by CHAKKARs - Moving Interventions, featuring seven BIPoC artists. It explores how dance, body, and movement can create spaces for new images, narratives, and futures, presenting poetic and visionary moments to collectively imagine decolonizing counterpoints more info
"Magical Visions | Decolonizing Turns" is a public laboratory intervention that focuses less on analytical criticism and more on designing decolonizing counterpoints through performed "magical visions." Seven BIPoC artists from the CHAKKARs network will meet in an internal, non-public laboratory to develop short performative interventions. These will be publicly presented for the first time on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The artistic works build on the network and archives that CHAKKARs has continuously built and maintained since 2019. The central question is how dance, body, and movement can become spaces in which new images, narratives, and futures emerge. Instead of explanatory discourses, poetic, sensual, and visionary moments are in the foreground, inviting dreaming, reflection, and collective imagination. The invited artists develop short interventions that make utopias performatively tangible and, for a moment, leave fear, violence, discrimination, and racism behind. The performances focus on reduction and concentration on the essential: body, movement, and presence. This creates – temporarily – a paradisiacal space in which toxic exclusion is abolished and body, movement, and collective imagination are celebrated. "Magical Visions | Decolonizing Turns" sees itself as an invitation to jointly develop visions and to try out alternative forms of coexistence. Organizers/Performers: CHAKKARs - Moving Interventions. Event Type: Public Laboratory Intervention, Performance, Dance, Discourse, Installation, Early Boarding, Relaxed Performance. Funding: Funded by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich. This event/project is made possible by the Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance (BLZT) with funds from the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art. Accessibility: Relaxed Performance, Early Boarding, Disabled Parking, Guide dogs allowed.

Voice & Daxophone more info
Phil Minton, perhaps the best-known singer of free improvisation, is known for his remarkable extended vocal techniques, which encompass the entire spectrum of human expression: from simple breathing, murmuring, grumbling and whispering to whistling, burping and rattling, screaming and moaning, from shrill highs to booming lows, all part of his vocabulary. Kriton Beyer, in turn, uses his still rather obscure instrument, the daxophone, in an extremely voice-like manner, often imitating human and animal sounds and speech patterns that seem to be built into the nature and character of the instrument. The two voices complement each other equally, without one ever obscuring the other. They move gracefully somewhere between the animal and the human, sometimes comical and grotesque, sometimes subtle and fragile, in an intuitive musical exchange of blows between two multifaceted voices of different kinds. Improvisation at its finest! With: Phil Minton (voice), Kriton Beyer (daxophone)

The Jam Sessions in March are led by bassist Ilan Gold. Beginners are always welcome. Those who join Gold and his bands on stage should know that he is primarily concerned with honesty, truth, and authenticity – regardless of whether he brings his own compositions or uses standards from the Great American Songbook as basic material. Phrases, clichés, and superficialities have no place in the music of this instrumentalist specializing in deep tones. This attitude of Ilan Gold was also evident in the band Acoustic Hammer, in the trio Chanson & Jazz, or in the formation Extra Teeth. So let's look forward to jams that are about the truth and nothing but the truth.

The documentary film "KEIN LAND FÜR NIEMAND" follows Europe's policy towards refugees in the Mediterranean over the last ten years, highlighting the role of voluntary sea rescuers and the impact of anti-migrant laws more info
The documentary film "KEIN LAND FÜR NIEMAND" (Germany 2025, directed by Max Ahrens and Maik Lüdemann, 111 min, HD Digital) follows the development of Europe's policy towards refugees in the Mediterranean over the last ten years. It highlights how state aid on escape routes has ceased, leading to voluntary sea rescuers stepping in, who are often powerless. Conversely, European states finance violent actions, such as those by the Libyan coast guard attacking boats with refugees, and pass anti-migrant laws. The partisan film aims to provoke with uncompromising images and a sequence of particularly drastic political decisions and speeches, which it succeeds in doing. The film is part of the "Internationale Wochen gegen Rassismus" (International Weeks Against Racism).

A cinematic essay by director Lea Hartlaub about a giraffe, exploring global narratives across continents and centuries more info
Director Lea Hartlaub's cinematic essay uses the giraffe as a central object to tell a global story that spans continents and centuries. This experimental film, which has garnered significant international attention, is unique in both its form and content. Through a purist cinematic language and stage-like tableaus, SR explores humanity and the realities it creates. The film consists of 16 fragmentary episodes, presented in 91 shots across 30 locations, including an island in the West Pacific, a reading room in New York, a ceramics factory near Beijing, and a runway in Niger. The film delves into conjectures, assertions, and the relativity of knowledge, addressing colonial relics, hegemonic structures, appropriation, and the handling of the exotic. The recurring motif of the giraffe appears both directly and peripherally, creating a multi-layered narrative that suggests more than what is immediately visible.

Levka, a 19-year-old indie-pop artist, blends nostalgia and rock star glamour with a sound that defies clear categorization. Discovered through a demo tape, he crafts songs at his piano, combining writing, composing, and analog recording before perfecting them in the studio more info
How does one get a record deal in 2024 without a single song released and no gigantic social media following? Classically, like in the 90s: with incredible talent and a demo tape. Well, the demo was digital now and no longer a tape. But otherwise, LEVKA's music career started entirely in the spirit of the good old days, and somehow that also fits the sound of the 19-year-old, who always has a certain nostalgia and glamour of past rock star eras. He financed the demo himself. "There were three songs on it, all of which still sounded very raw, but for 200€ you can't complain," jokes LEVKA, whose real name is Levin, when he remembers his first musical creations, which ultimately opened the doors to the music industry for him despite their rawness. An acquaintance knew an acquaintance, who in turn knew a manager, who in turn knew an A&R – long story short: Levka's demo finally landed at Sony Music and immediately caused a stir there. The raw demo revealed a raw diamond that could already be seen glittering and shining. He signed his record deal, and as fate would have it, LEVKA went viral with an audio clip on the same day. It seems the universe has a plan for the young indie-pop star in the making. Such talent, of course, does not arise in a vacuum. Diamonds need a certain pressure to form. Levin was sent to a music school by his mother at the age of four. "That was actually like a kind of playgroup, only with flutes and drums instead of shovels and molds," he describes this first contact with music. No matter! In his Estonian mother's upbringing, early musical education was a must to train the mind. After the playgroup, ten years of piano lessons followed. Today, LEVKA plays the piano perfectly and, among other things, the guitar, and he repeatedly points to his mother's help, that he persevered and thus, over time, wasable to discover more and more that music might be what not only prepared him for a successful life but could BE his life. "Of course, my mother actually wanted me to study and become a doctor or something. Last year I also wanted to start training as a physiotherapist. But I don't think that will happen now," laughs LEVKA. Instead, it's now: sessions in the studio in Trier, LEVKA's hometown, which his management is currently finishing for him, among other things, and of course also at the home piano, where all his song sketches actually originate. The ideas come to him everywhere. In the children's room, on the way to the supermarket, in the bathroom, of course. After the idea, it usually proceeds in the same way: LEVKA sits down at the piano and refines the melody, then comes the text. "My music is created from writing, composing, and recording exclusively analog. I write every song at the piano in my home and record it with the iPhone's memo function," he says with a laugh. Professional dilettantism in all its beauty. Then it's perfected in the studio. Just like in the 90s. If he had to describe his sound, LEVKA keeps it simple: somewhere between indie and pop. You can't clearly categorize him, as each song sounds a little different. In 2024, fortunately, you don't have to define yourself clearly anymore. Especially not in music. But what can LEVKA offer the indie-pop scene that it doesn't already have? "The combination of text, voice, and music doesn't exist like mine," he answers after a few thoughtful seconds of consideration. And because he is a humble king, LEVKA quickly adds: "That doesn't mean that what I do is better! But my writing is not as commercially oriented as the sound of the music would suggest. I bring in a new mix of opposites." When asked how he wants to be perceived as an artist, LEVKA answers, this time without long hesitation: "Oh, just as a guy who can sing and make music a little well." And then he laughs his shy laugh again. We said it: humble King.

Bassist Joe Sanders presents his album 'Parallels' with a star-studded quartet, reinterpreting his role from groove supplier to soloist. He is joined by Seamus Blake, Plume, and Gregory Hutchinson more info
It is said of parallels that they meet at infinity. With bassist Joe Sanders, it's much faster, as his album Parallels proves. In his compositions, the musician, who lives in France and comes from Milwaukee, reinterprets his role with each piece, sometimes as the groove supplier, sometimes as the soloist who always sings in unison what he plays, or the one who sets the melody. For many, Joe Sanders was already the musical backbone, the player who laid the foundation. Charles Lloyd, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Gerald Clayton have trusted his rhythmic expertise. He staffed his Parallels band with some of the most interesting musicians of their generation: Canadian tenorist Seamus Blake, altoist Plume, and drummer Gregory Hutchinson.

PG Petricca is a representative of archaic blues, acoustic blues, played on the street, in small clubs or at specialized festivals. A busker career that reflects the philosophy of true bluesmen: free from any musical constraints and able to entertain the audience. He has developed his own way of evoking emotions with the resophonic guitar, thanks to his intensive study of Delta Blues masters like Charlie Patton, Bukka White, Furry Lewis and Mississippi Fred McDowell. After the experience with the Papa Leg Band, PG met Marco Tinari, with whom he started the Papa Leg Acoustic Duo adventure in 2005. Together they brought the Mississippi Delta Blues sound to the most important Italian and international festivals. They toured Europe, including Poland, Finland, Switzerland and Holland, as well as the United States, especially Mississippi and Tennessee. They collaborated with numerous artists, including Jimbo Mathus, Olga Munding, Rich Del Grosso, Bill Abel, Jon Short and Elam McNight, and recorded two highly acclaimed CDs: Railroad Blues from 2007 and Back To Mississippi from 2009. In 2011, PG began his solo career and has been constantly on the blues roads ever since. Back in the studio, he first worked as a guest of Paola Ronci, then of the Jona's Blues Band, until he finally released his first solo album At Home, which was released in 2015 and was a great success with the specialist press. This success continued with the album Tales And Other Stories from 2016. After a collaboration with Gipsy Rufina on an album with folk-blues influences in the dialect of the Fucino and Rieti regions in 2020, he released his third solo album Bad Days in October 2021.

Steve Coleman, a musician known for his consistent and determined approach to jazz over decades, created a unique and self-contained cosmos with his cult formation Five Elements in the 80s. Their music explores distinct and highly striking paths in rhythm, melody, and motifs. Even non-specialists can often recognize their distinct sound after just a few metrically structured bars. A recently recorded live double-album in France, "PolyTropos/ Of Many Turns," showcases the current level of the Five Elements, led by alto saxophonist, composer, and mastermind Steve Coleman. The album demonstrates how such complex music can flow, groove, and captivate listeners. The band seems to have reached the zenith of their creativity, a sentiment that has been felt for the past ten, fifteen, or twenty years, leaving audiences to wonder what the future holds for them.

Theresa Tadday's songs combine catchiness with flair and possess timeless qualities, blending jazz, soul, and funk. Her music offers space for profound emotions, melancholy, lightness, and joy more info
Nothing is harder than writing a song that combines catchiness with flair, embeds itself in the audience's memory with its melody, and also possesses timeless qualities. Theresa Tadday's songs are said to have the properties needed for eternity. They have room for deep emotion and melancholy, but also for the lightness of being, for the joy of life - and for a lot of ingredients from jazz, soul, and funk. There are no superfluous trinkets in Tadday's songs. Every word has meaning, every turn makes sense and yet is surprising. She has also led singing groups: children's choirs, senior citizens' choirs, church choirs. And: she wrote a successful children's musical. On this evening, Theresa Tadday shares the stage with bassist Susi Lotter and her band.

But we’ve got provisions, we’ve got space, and we’ve got a rig that could probably pass for a seismological measuring device. Pack your sturdy shoes. We are leaving civilization.

Open mics for Munich's young poets! A Poetry Slam is the poetry competition of our time – lively, direct and full of emotion more info
Here, poetry becomes an experience and a platform for everyone who dares to share their texts with the world. The audience is right in the middle of it, not just watching, and decides the outcome of the evening with their applause. Under the artistic direction of Munich's SlamMaster Ko Bylanzky, the U20 Poetry Slam at the Münchner Volkstheater has long become a success story. Here, Munich's young slam talent is in the spotlight: young people up to 20 years old present their own texts – whether poems, stories, or performances, whether serious, humorous, personal, or socially critical. Shouting, whispering, howling, panting, whistling, rapping – everything is allowed. The tools: language, voice, and body. The competition quickly takes a backseat, as respect, togetherness, and a shared passion for words are more important. Accompanied by Ko Bylanzky and a guest moderator, experienced slam stars as special guests provide additional energy on stage. So: sharpen your pencils, get ready – it's going to be poetic! Registration via email to u20slam@muenchner-volkstheater.de

A dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke & Serhat "Saïd" Perhat, exploring individual and collective rhythms through urban dance and experimental forms more info
"Tide" is a dance theater piece by Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke and Serhat "Saïd" Perhat. The performance explores the rhythm of breathing, not only in humans but in everything, from nature to the tides of civilization. It questions what happens when one develops a perception for this omnipresent breathing, what elements are overlooked in the flow of things, and how to stop the floods of events to make new things visible. Following their successful dance theater piece "Grey," the creators and their ensemble embark on a research journey into individual and collective tides. The piece combines urban dance with experimental forms, and organic movement lines with hard, acrobatic elements. Dancers' bodies become resonance spaces, creating a movement flow that follows personal transformations and societal dynamics, with individuals either swimming against the current or being carried by it.

Monthati Masebe in conversation about how composing becomes a living archive when language fades – and her upcoming opera Isithunzi at the Munich Biennale more info
Colonial sound hierarchies and Western archiving practices have long determined which instruments are preserved and which are allowed to disappear. But what is lost when rhythms, melodies and tonal systems rooted in indigenous cultures fall silent? Inspired by the knowledge that more than 600 indigenous instruments are played in South Africa alone, Monthati Masebe – sound artist, composer and healer – embarks on a sonic act of preservation. In dealing with the archives of this rich tradition, she works with voice, overtones, bends, glissandi and fluctuating pitches, with ethereal vocalizations and throat singing that expand and shift normative ideas of "correct" singing. When language fades, music also changes. Composing becomes a living archive: a space for resonance, memory and cultural knowledge beyond written tradition. At Habibi Kiosk, we come together for an encounter with this practice and for a conversation with Monthati Masebe about archiving, sound and the urgencies that shape her artistic work today. Monthati Masebe's opera Isithunzi will be presented at the Munich Biennale. Presented in cooperation with the Munich Biennale.
